I’ve been watching this gerber daisy in my garden the past week or so - watching it bud, bloom, raise its face to the warmth of the sun on a few very un-winterlike days. Musing to myself, “man that thing is in for a rude awakening in a couple days”, knowing what was coming, realizing its beauty would fade quickly with the harsh winter temps coming down the pipeline.

Then winter hits in all its fury, and though the color fades, and ice coats its petals, the gerber still stands tall, face towards the sun, and it’s still beautiful in its own right, maybe more so now than before.

When the ice melts, and the warm days return, so will the flower. Stronger than before, as it has been every spring since planted a few years ago. Funny… gerber daisies are considered annuals here, yet year after year these particular flowers emerge triumphant every spring.

There’s a message in there, if you pay attention, one that carries weight and importance. A good strong message, if you need to hear it.

Someone went to the vet today. Someone wasn’t super happy about it. Someone decided maybe the vet was a fine and dandy place to be after all and wanted to explore alllll over. Someone decided to try to get into the vet’s scrubs….. from the neck hole.

I don’t know what, if anything really, I was expecting out of taking the Wood Badge Course but I came out here to the beautiful Camp Trevor Rees-Jones to give #WoodBadge147 a go and see what it was all about. I have been absolutely blown away. I’ve been challenged, encouraged, supported, pushed to bend my limits, humbled, and so much more. The friends I have made I can already tell will be lifelong and people I can always count on to push our patrol to be “performers” in our leadership. I am already looking forward to the next weekend of learning how to serve my Scouting community and the world beyond it.

So… I gave my cub scouts a project to make Christmas Cards for a local nursing home this evening at our meeting. I gave very specific instructions: No fire, no action hero fight scenes, just a nice card like you’d make for your grandma or granddad……

This will bee 🐝 the pollinator garden (see what I did there?) - it’s planned and ready for action, just have to go get expanded shale and compost while I wait for my new tiller to get here this afternoon.
